On April 21, 2018, I attended the annual Chicano Park Festival, in Barrio Logan, San Diego, CA. I had read about it a couple years ago and wanted to attend. I love the artwork there, so wanted to see the additional activities at the festival.
I spent quite a bit of time walking around the area looking at all the amazing low rider and old cars. This post will be followed up with two posts of photos of cars that were there.
It was quite the family affair with chairs set out next to each car, awnings and other gathering accoutrements, as family and friends showed up to support the car owner. As you can see from my photos there were many food, clothing and other kinds of vendors.
There were various groups preforming all day. The Aztec Dancers were performing while I was there but I couldn’t get up close enough to see them other than the feathers showing up above the crowd, and a dancer walking ahead of me, heading to get ready for his event. I did enjoy the drumming though 🙂
I noticed this woman dressed up in a wedding gown but with a painted skull face. I don’t know if she was going to perform later or whether she just came that way to the festival.
Here are three more photos of beautiful murals in the area. You can click on any photo to enlarge it to see more detail.
I have three older posts you might enjoy, posts about Chicano park and photos of many of the murals. All photos were taken by me with my Samsung phone camera.
Hope you enjoyed this post. Come check out Barrio Logan and Chicano park if you are in the area. They have a monthly art walk, with local galleries and eateries participating. If you want to go to the yearly festival, you can do a search and find out next years date. http://chicano-park.com/
