More Balboa Park Sights!

During my time at Balboa Park a few weeks ago, I took some more photos of interesting and beautiful sights.

I loved these beautiful flowers at Alcazar Garden, which is next to the Mingei Museum.

This beautiful blossom caught my eye.  It was on a plant next to the other two plant areas in the photos above.

San Diego Tortoise Society

A few weeks ago I went to Balboa park, after a long absence.  There is a room that regularly holds flower shows on the weekend, so I headed over there.  I wandered into the San Diego Tortoise Society show. There were turtles, tortoises, ceramic objects shaped like turtles and tortoises, photos, t-shirts and breads shaped like Turtles and Tortoises.

Here are some photos:

In the top photo you can see those awning gatherings I spoke of in my previous posts.  It was great for me to see the support these car owners had, with food, family, friends gathered round to enjoy the festival and support the car owner.

You can read my first post about the celebration here:  https://katelontjeffereys.wordpress.com/2018/05/04/48th-annual-chicano-park-festival/  In the first post you will find links to previous posts I’ve shared that have photos of all the beautiful murals painted all around Chicano Parks.

Car Show At Chicano Park Day Celebration – Part One

Hello Friends!

In my post yesterday, https://katelontjeffereys.wordpress.com/2018/05/04/48th-annual-chicano-park-festival/ , I talked about all the beautiful low-rider and other refurbished cars shown at the celebration.

I noticed that most of the cars were Chevrolet’s.  I had had a beautiful red and white 1956 Ford Convertible, when I was sixteen, so had hoped to see one there.  I finally asked a Latino Man if there were any Ford cars there that day.  His son mentioned that there were a few but that Mexicans had always like Chevrolet – that had been their car. (his words).  So I didn’t see a 56 Ford but did see many wonderful cars.

As I mentioned yesterday, next to each car was usually chairs filled with family and friends, enjoying the car and supporting the owner.

Here are photos of 10 of the cars. You can click on a photo to enlarge it.  Each car was so beautifully detailed, from the tires and rims to the upholstery and more.

Hope you enjoyed the cars!  Thank you for visiting my blog!  If you like this post, please share a comment, a “like”, and sign up to follow and join in the adventures!

48th Annual Chicano Park Festival

On April 21, 2018, I attended the annual Chicano Park Festival, in Barrio Logan, San Diego, CA. I had read about it a couple years ago and wanted to attend.  I love the artwork there, so wanted to see the additional activities at the festival.

I spent quite a bit of time walking around the area looking at all the amazing low rider and old cars. This post will be followed up with two posts of photos of cars that were there.

It was quite the family affair with chairs set out next to each car, awnings and other gathering accoutrements, as family and friends showed up to support the car owner.  As you can see from my photos there were many food, clothing and other kinds of vendors.

There were various groups preforming all day.  The Aztec Dancers were performing while I was there but I couldn’t get up close enough to see them other than the feathers showing up above the crowd, and a dancer walking ahead of me, heading to get ready for his event. I did enjoy the drumming though 🙂

I noticed this woman dressed up in a wedding gown but with a painted skull face. I don’t know if she was going to perform later or whether she just came that way to the festival.

Here are three more photos of beautiful murals in the area.  You can click on any photo to enlarge it to see more detail.

I have three older posts you might enjoy, posts about Chicano park and photos of many of the murals.  All photos were taken by me with my Samsung phone camera.

Happy Spring from the Tyrannosaurus Rex and Bunnies!

Interesting Plant

I’ve seen these plants in many yards along my path. I’m not sure if it is a cactus or a succulent.   I love how it flowers.  There is a house I walk by, situated on a corner lot, that has a row of them around their yard.  It’s amazing to me how tall they grow.

Here are a couple more photos of the flowers.

I love the variety of beauty that nature provides.  It is time that humans embrace and accept this variety and diversity in other humans as well 🙂
